Our Groups
We have 50 or so interest groups, listed below, covering a wide range of activities.
Visit a group's web page for more details and a contact link.
See our photo gallery on the HOME page for some of our groups in action!
How do I join a Group?
The fastest and easiest way is to visit that group's web page (below) and send an email message to the Group Leader via the link.
Note that you must be a MEMBER of Ripon and District u3a to join any group.
How much does it cost?
You annual u3a subscription to Ripon and District u3a gives you access to all our groups.
Extra costs are group-specific: each group is different. Some activities are free, some share costs such as room hire or refreshments, and some activities, such as a theatre visit, or a coach outing, are at cost.
New Group?
While we have over 50 active groups, we are always looking to expand and diversify in order to offer as many opportunities as posssible for our members. If you're interested in a particular subject or hobby, starting a new group could be a great option.
Whilst this may seem a daunting prospect Karen, our Group Coordinator, is on-hand to provide comprehensive support, with advice on matters such as venues, timing, and finances. For more information, please get in touch with Karen via the CONTACT page.
Groups can be led by just one person, or two or more members can choose to co-lead the group together. Many Group Leaders thoroughly enjoy the experience: 'making new friends', 'enjoying a shared activity' and 'personal development' are just a few comments made recently.

Risk Assessments, Incident Reporting, and Insurance
Risk assessments are required for group activities
- Safeguarding (protecting the health, well-being and human rights of individuals) is the responsibility of all: both Members and Leaders.
- Group members are required to do their own personal risk assessment and decide whether they are happy with the arrangements for the group activity.
- Group Leaders are required to follow current government guidelines, consider the risks involved with their particular group activity, and fill out a Risk Assessment form if they see fit. Group leaders should also advise their members of any safety requirements etc. and inform the committee.
Incident reporting and insurance information
- The u3a movement provides insurance cover for group activities.
- Group Leaders should report any problem arising during a group activity.
You can find detailed information on all these areas on the Documents webpage, arranged according to the intended readership
