Welcome to the Ripon Local History Research group. Formerly the Ripon Archaeology Research group, we used to concentrate on archaeology - but we have run out of things to investigate within our resources ...

... so we have converted to researching Local History - mainly desktop research into the history of Ripon & surrounding parishes, relying heavily on the internet to access information. We  also research the Industrial Archaeology of Ripon such as Carriage Works, Leather Working.

If you have something you would like to research in Ripon - a house, a street, a period of time - do come and talk to us. We share skills and resources and are happy to help you get started.

We meet on Friday mornings in Copt Hewick Village Hall, and anyone interested in joining us is welcome to come along & see what we do - 9.30am is coffee time. To fund our activities each member pays in £15 a month, which covers the cost of the hall, licences, materials & refreshments.
