Family History

Status:Active, open to new members
Leader:
When: Monthly on Thursday afternoons 1:30 pm-3:30 pm
2nd week - Please see "Our Meeting Schedule" below
Venue: Ripon Library

We explore family histories and social history, covering a wide range of genealogy topics.
Our meetings alternate between contributions from members and Zoom presentations from outside experts.

Our members have ancestors in many parts of the UK, with some who have family in more distant parts of the world. Many of us are also interested in DNA testing for genealogy. Some of our members are new to Genealogy, others have been researching for years- all are welcome!

Our Meeting Schedule

The Family History group meets once a month. Please note that we have changed our meeting day and venue: from 9 October 2025 we will meet at Ripon Library from 13:30-15:0 on the second Thursday of each month.

  • Face to Face meetings will be in October, February, April and June.
  • In September, November, January 2026, March and May, we will have a Zoom presentation by a subject matter expert.

Zoom Meetings

Combining with Harrogate has enabled us to invite nationally known speakers and share a Zoom subscription to keep our costs down. Our own members make presentations based on their own research and there is also time for more informal discussions on Family History topics.
One-to-one help is available if you need it to get up and running on Zoom.

Further Info

We ask for an annual contribution towards the cost of speakers and our Zoom contract (the amount is currently under review).

If you are interested in joining us please contact us and we will send you a calendar for our Zoom meetings and in person meetings at Community House.
